Fredericton to rally for Gaza Freedom Flotilla

Fredericton – This Saturday, June 5, 2010, Fredericton will join a global day of action in support of the humanitarian workers on board the Gaza Freedom Flotilla. The rally will take place at Fredericton City Hall at 1pm. A number of speakers will draw attention to Israel’s continuing illegal occupation and refusal to abide by international law, and its recent massacre of innocent humanitarian workers. June 5th also marks the 43rd anniversary of the Israeli occupation of Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.

“Fredericton Palestine Solidarity condemns the Israeli attack on the Gaza aid flotilla. The attack was in violation of international law, and resulted in the death and injury of aid workers attempting to supply the basic needs of the people of the people of Gaza in the face of the brutal Israeli blockade,” says Jack Gegenberg, an organizer with Fredericton Palestine Solidarity and Jews for a Just Peace Fredericton.

“We call on the international community to prevent further attacks on the Gaza aid ships, and to demand that Israel lift the Gaza blockade immediately. We are holding a rally in support of the aid workers on the Gaza flotilla, to condemn the attacks, and to demand that Israel lift the blockade of Gaza. We call on all who support these goals to join us at the rally,” continues Gegenberg.

Many governments around the world have spoken out against the Israeli attack on the Gaza aid flotilla and Israel’s blockade of humanitarian relief to Gaza. They have called on the UN to do an independent investigation. The Canadian government has shamefully not condemned the attacks and has joined the U.S. government in saying that Israel should investigate itself.

Saturday’s rally in Fredericton is organized by Fredericton Palestine Solidarity, Jews for a Just Peace Fredericton and the Fredericton Peace Coalition.
