NB abortion activists want coverage for clinical services

Social work students at St. Thomas University designed postcards on how to get an abortion in New Brunswick after learning how difficult it was to access this information. They want the public to send these postcards with messages on the back to Premier Brian Gallant and Health Minister Victor Boudreau.

Following Prince Edward Island’s announcement that abortion services will be returning to the province on March 30, New Brunswick’s Green Party Leader and Fredericton South MLA, David Coon, presented Reproductive Justice NB‘s petition to have abortion services at clinics covered by the province, starting with Clinic 554 in Fredericton.

“On the heels of the great news in PEI regarding access to clinical abortions for islanders, today I presented a petition with 356 names on behalf of Reproductive Justice New Brunswick,” stated Coon on April 1 in the N.B. Legislature. “They are seeking increased access to abortion services in the province by repealing s. 2.01(b) of the NB Medical Services Payment Act and funding abortion health care services delivered in community settings, starting with Clinic 554.”
